Background
Dr. James Mitchell is the surgical backbone of Dentix. When a case requires more than standard implant placement — significant bone loss, sinus proximity, impacted teeth, or jaw irregularities — he is the one in the chair.
He completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, followed by a four-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. His residency included rotations in head and neck trauma, reconstructive jaw surgery, and advanced bone grafting techniques, giving him a surgical depth that most general implant practices simply don't have in-house.
At Dentix, he performs all bone grafting procedures, sinus lifts, complex extractions, and any surgical intervention needed before or during implant placement. Having a maxillofacial surgeon on the team means patients who have been turned away elsewhere for insufficient bone or complicated anatomy often find a solution here. He works in close coordination with Dr. Reynolds on implant positioning and with Dr. Carter on cases where surgical decisions directly affect the final aesthetic outcome.
